With the show about to start, cameras open on the parking area where ASCENT hopeful Jud Kennelly has only just arrived. Looking confident-bordering-on-cocky, he strides through the parking area and around to the entrance reserved for talent. He casts a derisive look at the camera.
Jud Kennelly — Did you think I was going to show up early and bore myself through the matches before mine just to know who I would be up against in the Main Event?
The anonymous cameraman keeps following Kennelly as he jerks open the door and struts inside.
Jud Kennelly — It doesn’t matter if it’s Elina, Konstantine, that idiot K-Remix, or every person on the roster. I’m the one who will walk out with the Genesis Championship tonight. They’ve already ordered my name plate for it, I guarantee it.
Jud looks around the hall, expecting to see some crew member he can commandeer for a personal assistant, or bag boy, for the evening. Disgusted at having no one but the cameraman in sight, he keeps moving.
Jud Kennelly — Oh, and Lex Collins? Don’t bother worrying about him. Old man couldn’t win a match if his life depended on it. He’s all talk and no show, and he always has been. If you hadn’t fallen asleep half-way through that snore fest he called a promo, you would have seen how desperately he clings to the few achievements he has. He’s stuck in the past because he belongs in the past. He’s an antique, and I am the future. Not just of ASCENT, but of professional wrestling.
As Kennelly reaches the dressing room area, he slams the door in the face of the cameraman.
Tiffany vs James Raven
Singles Match
Singles Match
As the bell rings the crowd is quick to start a chant for Tiffany, who gives them a gracious but brief acknowledgement. James seems annoyed, charging Tiffany while he thinks she’s not paying attention. Raven hits a running lariat, but Tiffany is right back on her feet with a roundhouse kick that sends James staggering. Raven looks for another lariat, but Tiffany ducks under and captures Raven’s head for a running bulldog. With unexpected vigor, Tiffany slams James’ head into the mat several times before the referee waves her off.
James uses the momentary distraction and whips Tiffany over to the mat with an arm drag. He launches right into a series of forearm and elbow strikes in a classic ground and pound. With Tiffany down James heads to the top rope. He plays to the crowd, trying to hype them up for him, though a good portion remains staunchly behind Tiffany. James sails off the turnbuckle, twisting in the air as he goes for a corkscrew elbow drop. But no one is home! Tiffany rolls out of the way at the last second, leaving James clutching his arm from the impact as he tumbles across the canvas.
It’s Tiffany’s turn to head up top, as she climbs the ropes in the nearest corner. The crowd pops, several members of the front row on their feet as she throws one hand in the air. She drops, bounces off the top ropes, and hits her split-legged moonsault! She throws an arm across James’ chest and hooks the legs for a pin, but only gets two before Raven gets the shoulder up. James maneuvers around, looking for a heel hook, but Tiffany scrambles away before he can get a solid hold. Raven surges off of the mat and hits a snap suplex that echoes through the studio.
Tiffany holds her back as she stands, but is still in the game. James hits a running dropkick that sends her back to the mat, but she rolls backward over her shoulder into a crouch. She surges up for a big high-momentum clothesline that carries them both into the ropes. With a kick to the midsection to wear James down, Tiffany sends him to the opposite ropes and back with an Irish whip. James rebounds for the extra momentum and nails Tiffany with another running clothesline that sends them both over the top rope!
Both wrestlers are out of the ring, and the referee begins the count. Tiffany uses the barricade to pull herself up. The fans in the front row beat against it and cheer her name. James shakes his head out and stands using the edge of the apron. Raven hops up onto the apron and runs across, hopping up and hitting the top rope before he sails off with the Ravensault. Tiffany and James both crash hard into the barricade and go slack on the floor outside the ring. By the time the referee reaches ten, neither one has moved. The medical staff come pouring out of the back as the bell rings.
Winner: No Contest
Behind the Scenes
As the crowd is still entrenched in the action and excitement of Scarlett and Viola’s match, unbeknownst to ASCENT talent and fans alike, Konstantine sits backstage in the shared dressing room area, currently empty but for himself, preparing for his own upcoming match. His face paint is already applied, casting the dreadful shadow upon his eyes. He busily finishes tying around the wrist bands, before letting go a sigh.
The single door to the area opens almost silently, and filling the frame is the dark-haired and contemplative visage of none other than ASCENT’s owner, Jasper Kincaid. Kincaid is dressed in a sharp all-black suit, the only splash of color coming from the deep crimson pocket handkerchief. He studies the lone competitor in the dressing room for several long moments before finally speaking.
Jasper Kincaid — You must be the one they call Konstantine.
Konstantine — Indeed, I am.
He doesn’t break his gaze from his final inspections on himself. Kincaid doesn’t introduce himself, either assuming everyone already knows who he is, or perhaps not caring whether they do or not.
Jasper Kincaid — Tell me, why are you here?
Konstantine — This tired rhetoric? Why are you interested? You signed me, you should have the basic understanding of why I’m here.
Jasper Kincaid — I didn't sign you, my General Manager did.
Despite the cool response he received, Kincaid looks amused.
Konstantine — I’m here for the Genesis Championship. There’s no underlying plot, outside of taking out those who stand in my way. A lot of people who want to take what I have set my sights on have their own schemes. I care not for them. Simple thoughts, that’s it.
Jasper Kincaid — I think, Konstantine…
The moniker rolls off Kincaid’s tongue in clear indication that it amuses him to address the man before him in that way rather than by a true name.
Jasper Kincaid — … that you’re a man who enjoys hurting people. I think that’s why you’re here.
Konstantine — It’s a byproduct. I didn’t at first, but I started to once I realized that I needed to make a career out of this.
Konstantine’s eyes get a small glimpse as he arches his head up. The steel blue resonates with his grim demeanor.
Konstantine — Sometimes… I like to hurt some people more than others.
For the first time, a hint of curiosity appears in Jasper’s expression.
Jasper Kincaid — I won’t ask if you have anyone particular in mind.
Konstantine — It’s fairly obvious that Finale is one of those people, but it’s not hard to understand me. If the blood on my hands didn’t wash away like it did, this whole floor would be turned into a river of it. It’s what happens when you go to war with people just as hostile as you are. You start to get numb and then you start to feel the primal satisfaction in emptying some enemy’s vein onto that pristine mat.
The Last King’s words never grow louder than they need, a speech accessorized with a vagrant French accent. He tilts his head at Jasper.
Konstantine — You came to witness me—why?
For the first time since his arrival, a small smile breaks across Kincaid’s face. He withdraws his hands from the pockets of his pressed black slacks, revealing an expensive watch and heavy ring on the left. With a small gesture of his upturned hands, he indicates Konstantine where he sits.
Jasper Kincaid — Because I wanted to see if the man matched the story. Pictures, words on a page, they mean nothing. You don’t know a man until you look in his eyes.
On his word, Konstantine gets up from the bench, where he meets Kincaid’s gaze. There is a silence as they stare into one another’s eyes. Kincaid keeps his smile present, while Konstantine allows everyone seeing their interaction to see his indomitable, unwavering glare.
Konstantine — Then tell me, Mr. Kincaid, look into my eyes. What do you see when you stare? Do you understand me? Do you… get me? Am I everything you had hoped to see when you decided to make your way here?
Jasper Kincaid — Understand you? Get you? Probably not.
Kincaid is candid in his deep-voiced, resonating response. Even in Konstantine’s unnerving gaze, the Ascent owner doesn’t waver.
Jasper Kincaid — What I expected? Certainly not. But what I had hoped to see? Yes.
Konstantine steps back, lowering his head. His attention returns back to the bench and his preparations.
Konstantine — Then continue to monitor me if you’d like. I have the full intention to win the Genesis Championship tonight. But if I happen to lose, then I’m not entirely sure what kind of fate will await the winner or anyone who dares to try to impede my desire.
Jasper Kincaid — I’m not sure either…
Kincaid’s baritone grows darker.
Jasper Kincaid — But I look forward to finding out. All I want is for you to do… precisely what you want to do.
Leaving the odd declaration hanging in the air, Kincaid retreats from the doorway, leaving Konstantine alone with his thoughts once more.
Konstantine — Hardly any restrictions? That’s dangerous…
Recorded Earlier
A modest studio setting is revealed, showing two comfy armchairs positioned across from each other against a backdrop advertising the inaugural All Star Combat Entertainment show. Backstage correspondent Alex Easton smiles across at his guest before turning to address the camera.
Alex Easton — I'd like to take this moment to welcome my guest, a veteran of the squared circle and one of the contenders for the Genesis Championship: Lex Collins. Welcome, Lex.
Collins smiles, cracking the seal on a bottle of water before bringing it to his lips. He's already in his ring gear, hands taped up the way a boxer's would be for sparring. When he replies, his voice comes out low, a hint of a lazy drawl softening the words.
Lex Collins — Thanks for havin' me, Alex. Pretty stoked about bein' in on the ground floor of what's sure to be a game-changer in the business.
Alex Easton — In your own words, who is Lex Collins?
He chuckles ruefully, shaking his head.
Lex Collins — Lots of words get thrown around these days, y'know? Legend. Legacy. Veteran. Contender. All these definitions, all these neat little labelled boxes to put people in and it's just a natural part of who I am to rage against that easy solution. Who am I? I'm a fighter. In life. In the ring. That's just who I am, no strings or gimmicks attached. Simple as that.
Alex Easton — What drew you to ASCENT?
Lex Collins — Same thing that drew me to Norfolk, to Shoot Society... the promise of somethin' different. Sick of all these cookie cutter companies that pop up an' then disappear again overnight.
Alex Easton — I think it's fair to say you're definitely going to find that here. Aside from the obvious championships, what do you hope to accomplish with All Star Combat Entertainment?
Collins reaches up and rubs the back of his neck, looking slightly uncomfortable with the question although he manages a sheepish smile as he answers.
Lex Collins — Championships're great, don't get me wrong. But they're not the be-all/end-all for me. I wanna challenge myself. Like I just said, I wanna be part of somethin' different, somethin' that breaks the mold.
Alex Easton — Fair enough. Is there anyone on the roster you'll be keeping an eye on, and why?
Lex Collins — I dunno. After a bit of an exchange on Twitter a while back, kinda got my eye on James Raven. The guy's supposed to be a big threat, some old school showstopper so, y'know....
He shrugs as the words trail off.
Lex Collins — I guess it goes without sayin' that my opponent's on the radar. Did a fair amount of research on the guy an' Jud looks like he's destined for big things - another one of those definin' words - he's got the pedigree, y'know? I guess it'd be a little disingenuous if I said everyone, huh?
Alex Easton — Not really. Scouting the competition is never a bad thing, especially when there's the Genesis Champion to be decided. We're almost out of time, Lex, but I'd like to ask you one more question before we wrap up: what do you think your greatest challenge will be in ASCENT?
Collins chuckles softly, shaking his head.
Lex Collins — Well, shit. Saved the toughest one for last, huh? My greatest challenge? Honestly? Prob'ly keepin' my temper in check.
At the incredulous look on the face of the interviewer, Collins waves his hand dismissively.
Lex Collins — Not any anger management issues here, guy. I was just... y'know, bein' snarky. Gotta keep myself accountable, keep my ego in check an' make sure I cut these young'uns slack ‘cause respect in the business isn't reciprocal anymore. Guess that's the real challenge here. The rest of it? The fight... the preparation an' all that jazz? Easy-peasy. I got that down pat.
Alex Easton — Thanks for joining me, Lex. Good luck out there tonight.
Collins moves to his feet, shaking hands with Alex Easton before nodding to the camera. He flashes a peace sign, the hint of a crooked smile on his lips before he walks off set. The big screen goes dark, and the lights come back up for the next match.
Viola Wolff vs Scarlett Anthem
Singles Match
Singles Match
Viola takes control as soon as the bell rings with a chop block to the knee of Scarlett when she charges. Wolff takes hold of Anthem’s ankle and holds her leg out, dropping an elbow to the inside of Scarlett’s knee. The crowd boos, but Viola only gives them a rude gesture before stomping on that same knee. Anthem clutches her leg as the referee backs Viola up. In pain, but determined, Scarlett forces her way to her feet. Wolff taunts the rookie before she charges, but this time Scarlett is read with an arm drag that she transitions to an arm wrench on the canvas!
Viola makes a sound that can only be described as a snarl as she gets to her feet and rounds on Scarlett. The women circle each other once before Viola lunges in. Scarlett things fast and leaps up to catch Wolff with a headscissor takedown that flings her across the ring. Viola is only just starting to recover when Scarlett whirls in with a discus punch that lays her out. Anthem drags Viola away from the ropes and goes for the first pin attempt of the match, getting only a two count before Wolff kicks out.
Scarlett’s momentum is abruptly stalled as Viola catches her with a wicked kick to the thigh. Wolff expertly works the leg she had already begun tearing down with several more vicious strikes, topping them off with a basement dropkick to the knee. Viola taunts Scarlett as she tangles up the other woman’s legs and lays on a figure-four leglock submission! Scarlett cries out in pain as the front row beats on the barricade to try to rally her. Viola screams for Anthem to tap and shouts at the referee to ask her if she wants to give up, but Scarlett adamantly refuses.
Scarlett plants both hands on the mat, managing to drag herself and Viola far enough forward that she can get a hand on the bottom rope. The ref calls for the break, but Wolff holds on nearly until she’s disqualified. The referee gives Viola a blistering rebuke, and Scarlett uses the distraction to her advantage. Even on her shaky leg, she climbs to the top rope and sails off, catching Wolff with a hurricanrana. Anthem scrambles over on the mat and rains down a ten count of mounted punches into Viola’s face as the crowd eagerly counts along.
Viola looks dazed, but the moment Scarlett’s assault stops, Wolff throws her forehead right into Scarlett’s. Anthem stumbles backward from the headbutt, almost losing her footing but catching herself on the ropes beside Viola. Wolff seizes the opportunity and nails Scarlett with a wicked upkick. Scarlett drops like a ton of bricks and Viola makes the cover. One… Two… The referee sees Scarlett put her foot on the ropes! Viola can’t believe it! Anthem nails Wolff with a headbutt of her own and somehow finds the wherewithal to go to the top turnbuckle. The front row is once again on its feet, banging against the barricade as Scarlett dazzles them with her corkscrew shooting star press and makes the pin, picking up the three count.
Winner: Scarlett Anthem

The view switches backstage to the first aid area where the medical staff is tending to Tiffany and James Raven. The two are situated on opposite ends of the room, and facing away from one another, just in case. Tiffany is impatient, but compliant, while Raven is nearly combative.
Tiffany — I’m fine, really. I’ve taken bumps a lot worse than that before.
The blonde-haired female tech gives Tiffany the most patient look she can muster.
Medical Staff #1 — You’re tough, I get it. There is also a protocol in place, and it’s my job to follow it.
The bubbly blonde looks almost abashed, but still wants out of there.
Tiffany — Of course, I understand and I wouldn’t want you to cut any corners, but you can see that I’m just fine. I can move all my fingers and all my toes. I’m awake and alert. Just fine, see?
The tech gives her an almost sour look, but sets down the clipboard she just finished scribbling on.
Medical Staff #1 — You’re free to go, but I’m supposed to remind you that you are required to report any injury to Mr. Hawke should you feel in anyway unwell later in the week.
Tiffany — I will, pinkie promise.
Without another second of hesitation, Tiffany leaps off of the gurney and hurries out of the first aid area to head back to the dressing room. Across the room, James’ voice continues to escalate. He rips the blood pressure cuff off of his arm for the third time.
James Raven — Get that damn thing off of me and let me out of here. That bubble gum bimbo couldn’t hurt me on her best day. You saw the match, I had her beat.
Medical Staff #2 — I wasn’t watching the match, Mr. Raven, that’s not my job.
The older tech, a husky woman with gray-shot brown hair pulled back into a tight bun, looks as impressed with James as the average elementary school lunch lady.
James Raven — If she could take a hit, I never would have ended up here. I would have been going to the Main Event and she would be in the hospital.
Medical Staff #2 — Yes, I’m certain that Miss Nikolaev was somehow responsible for your recklessness.
James Raven — You say reckless, I say giving the crowd what they paid for. You don’t think they bought tickets so they could watch some eighteen year old kid with a dumbass name like K-Remix or a past-his-prime dad bod like Lex Collins, do you? No! They wanted to see James Raven be the first to win the Genesis Championship!
Medical Staff #2 — Yet here you are. I suppose that means neither you nor the crowd got what they wanted, doesn’t it?
It takes a moment for what the woman said to really set in. As it does, James looks enraged.
James Raven — Do you know who you’re talking to? I am the future Genesis and Apex Champion of this company!
Medical Staff #2 — And right now you’re just a wrestler with no championships, and my patient. You’re also free to go.
James shoves the instruments and clipboard aside as he gets up from the gurney. He stalks out of the room, muttering something about incompetence as he does.
Elina Cartel vs K-Remix
Singles Match
Singles Match
K-Remix starts the match fast and furious, trapping Elina in her corner as soon as the bell rings and laying into her with several knee strikes. Remix whips her to the mat with a snapmare and then jumps straight up onto the top rope for a sky-high moonsault that earns a chorus of cheers from the crowd. Elina is still in the game, escaping before Remix can even hook the leg for a pin attempt. Elina catches an incoming kick, only to be taken down by an enziguri. Remix seizes the opportunity and rains down a series of powerful forearm strikes.
K-Remix looks like he’s setting up for the Million Dollar Plex, but Elina breaks free at the last second. Cartel unleashes a volley of kicks and strikes that surprise both her opponent and the audience. Elina drives Remix back to a corner with a thrust kick and a one-two combo. She backs across the ring and charges forward, going for a running double knee. Remix ducks out at the last second, but Elina changes her momentum! She lands on the top rope and springs off, twisting in midair to lay Remix out with a diving crossbody. She makes the cover but only gets a two count before Remix kicks out with authority.
Cartel and Remix are on their feet at the same time. Elina launches into a series of kicks, but this time Remix is ready, catching her leg and spinning her down to the canvas with a dragon screw leg whip. Remix holds on, wrapping up Elina’s legs and twisting her body over, tying her up in the Lit Lock! Half the crowd cheers for Elina to tap while the other half tries to rally her. The referee asks if she wants to give up, but Cartel refuses. She struggles, reaches… and just barely manages to get the bottom rope and force the break!
Remix looks frustrated, but doesn’t lose his cool. The two lock up, trading positions several times until it looks like Elina has the upper hand. She steps in from the side, looking for a Russian legsweep. Remix throws an arm around her neck and locks the arm, defying gravity with a half-nelson asai DDT that brings the crowd to its feet. Both athletes are looking spent, but Remix gets to his feet first. Cartel pushes up onto her knees as Remix hits the rope, catching her with a wicked shining wizard that lays her out for a pin. One… Two… He only gets two and a half and Elina gets the shoulder up!
Cartel digs into her reserves and leaps up, wrapping her legs around K-Remix’s neck for a picture perfect hurricanrana. Remix rolls back to his feet with determination and turns around into a running flying forearm from Elina that nearly folds him in half. Still, he rolls back over his shoulder and to his feet in an impressive display of resilience. Remix looks to end it, stepping in for the Zero Chill. Cartel breaks free and flips onto her feet! Remix whips around and Elina leaps up, catching his head and blasting him with her Supernova! Cartel throws the arm over, too tired to hook the leg, and picks up One… Two… Three!
Winner: Elina Cartel
In Ring
“Option” by Crosses strikes the speaker system once more and out strides Scarlett Anthem wearing an unzipped hoodie over top of her ring gear. She claps a few hands on the way down the ramp before having a microphone handed to her and then slides into the ring.
The crowd is rowdy after Jud Kennelly and Lex Collins put on a show. Scarlett awaits the din dying down. It doesn’t. Inexperience mars her otherwise sunny disposition, as she is unsure of how to get the crowd to quiet. Finally...
Scarlett Anthem — H-hello, Portland Maine!
She looks uncertainly to those production assistants at ringside and to the announce team, no one seems to offer much helpful advice. Scarlett soldiers on.
Scarlett Anthem — It’s great to be here for Ascent’s premiere!
Heckler — Take off your shirt!
The comment, unluckily audible by a large enough swathe of the crowd to ignite a rush of laughter that reddens the face of Scarlett Anthem. She shrugs it off, she has to.
Scarlett Anthem — I signed to this company in order to prove just what I’m about. I’m a snowball.
Heckler — Snowflake!
Another round of laughter from the crowd, and another nervous blush from Scarlett.
Scarlett Anthem — Let me finish! A snowball gets larger as it gains more snow. Like me, just starting out, a little tiny snowball—
Heckler — Snowflake!
Scarlett stumbles over her words.
Scarlett Anthem — Okay. So look, I’m not getting my point across.
Heckler — Because you suck!
Scarlett is working her way through being flustered.
Scarlett Anthem — Okay. So I’ll be the first to tell you I’m not perfect. I’m here to collect experience, and hopefully get as close to being perfect as is possible!
Heckler — Take off your shirt!
Scarlett sighs into the microphone.
Scarlett Anthem — This is where it all starts, okay? No matter what, win or lose, this is me gaining steam. This is me working through, past, and over every single obstacle this industry throws my way. Why? Because I was born to do this. I live for this business, and not a single naysayer, heckler, or opponent with a mouth is going to tell me otherwise. So you all can just watch me grow. Either you’re with me! Or you’re still with me cause I’m pretty damn forgiving. I’m Scarlett Anthem. Thanks for your time
She can tell her runway has run out and with a smirk, she drops the mic as “Option” by Crosses strikes once more and she makes her way to the back looking far more determined than she did coming down.
Backstage
We leave the ring and head backstage where ASCENT GM Erik Hawke has been watching the events of the evening unfold from his makeshift office. On a small whiteboard behind his desk he’s drawn out a bracket for the evening, noting where Scarlett and Elina have moved on to the Main Event. Erik looks up from his notes as the door opens without a knock, revealing Viola Wolff.
Erik Hawke — Miss Wolff, how can I help you?
Viola Wolff — I want another shot at Scarlett Anthem.
Erik gives Viola a quizzical look, setting his pen down and folding his hands together atop his desk. He’s unable to help one brow raising in response to her demand.
Erik Hawke — Well I certainly can’t give you another match with Scarlett tonight, and I’m afraid I can’t just put you in the Main Event when she beat you fair and square.
Viola’s hands curl into tight fists and she stamps her foot on the floor.
Viola Wolff — You saw the match. You saw how close it was. I could have beat her. I would have beat her. She just got lucky. I want to prove it.
Erik Hawke — You might get that chance in the future, but I can’t promise you anything tonight. I’m waiting to see how the evening unfolds, just like everyone else. The focus now is on who will become the Genesis Champion.
Viola looks as though she’s ready to have an outburst, but instead takes a calming breath.
Viola Wolff — What will it take to have a rematch with Scarlett?
Hawke runs a hand over his red beard for a moment, studying Viola and gathering his thoughts.
Erik Hawke — If and when it makes sense for the two of you to face off again, then you will. I have an entire roster and show to think about, not just the grudges of single individuals. I appreciate your desire as an athlete to prove that you’re better than Scarlett, but the fact is, tonight, she was the better wrestler. Don’t take it personally.
Viola Wolff — You just saw her out there in the ring by herself. She floundered like a dying fish. She’s got no charm, no charisma! The only reason she looked good in that match is because I made her. I could be the face of your company.
Erik Hawke — I’m not going to be billing anyone as the face of my company, especially after the very first show. You had a very good match with Scarlett. Just keep up that kind of work and you have what it takes to go far here. I don’t doubt you’ll have another chance at the Genesis Championship and maybe even Scarlett, just not tonight.
For a moment it seems like Viola is ready to erupt. Erik seems prepared for the coming onslaught, but Wolff turns on her heel and stalks out of the office, slamming the door behind her.
Jud Kennelly vs Lex Collins
Singles Match
Singles Match
The two men are quick to size each other up after the bell rings, taking a few test lunges to see if the other takes the bait. Collins slides in and goes for a lockup, but Kennelly sidesteps just in time and leaps up to land an impressive Pele kick that knocks Lex back into the ropes. Jud throws his arms out to the side and soaks in the mixed reaction from the fans. The moment of glory-seeking leaves him open and as he turns back toward his opponent he eats a powerful elbow strike from Collins.
Lex stays on the offensive, laying Kennelly out on the canvas with a snap scoop slam before attempting to throw on a figure four neck lock. Jud manages to pry his way free before Collins can get the submission fully locked in and goes for a triangle choke of his own, but Lex gets a hand on the ropes before he can even get started. While the ref momentarily takes his eyes off of the two to call for the break, Kennelly sneaks in an eye rake that sends Collins rolling across the mat clutching his face. The crowd boos, but Jud treats the derision like cheers as he stalks his opponent.
As Collins gets to a knee, Kennelly nails him in the side of the head with a shuffle side kick. Lex sways and hits the mat. Jud drops and hooks the leg, looking for a quick victory. Collins gets the shoulder up after just one and rolls to his feet to create some separation. Kennelly taunts Lex, but Collins doesn’t fall for it. Jud throws a stiff kick into Collins’ ribs before he whips around, looking for another vicious strike on the opposite side. Collins catches the foot! Jud goes for the Enziguri, but Lex ducks beneath!
Kennelly wheels around, right into a forearm strike from Collins. Lex drives him back with a rapid-fire series of body shots until Jud is in the corner. Jud fends off a blow and trades places with Collins, throwing him into the turnbuckles with a choke toss. Kennelly backs up and goes for a corner splash, but Collins ducks out of the way! The crowd pops as Collins blasts the stunned Kennelly into the canvas with a headlock driver and holds on for the pin. One… Two… Jud gets the shoulder up! Collins and the crowd both look agitated while Kennelly just grins.
Collins throws his weight behind a lariat, but Kennelly ducks under, traps the arm, and heaves Collins over with a side suplex, following through for the pin. One… Two… Collins’ shoulder comes off the mat at two and a half, and the front row is on its feet. A standing dropkick sends Kennelly reeling, and Collins closes the gap relentlessly. Lex’s vicious right hook leaves Jud seeing stars. Collins backs halfway across the ring and charges in, catching Kennelly in the jaw with a running high knee before grabbing him by the head and running him out of the corner for a bulldog, completing the Systematic Breakdown 2.0. Lex makes the cover and picks up the three count for the win.
Winner: Lex Collins

The scene opens up to a interview featuring Elina Cartel. She and Alex Easton are sitting in chairs opposite each other. Alex smiles and nods towards Elina.
Alex Easton — Hello, and welcome. Elina, thank you for joining us today.
Elina Cartel — Thank you for having me.
Elina smiles at Alex and then for the camera, doing her best to maintain composure.
Alex Easton — I know I’m excited to get to know more about ‘Elina Cartel’ as are the fans of Ascent. Let us get right into it, shall we?
Elina Cartel — By all means.
Alex Easton — The burning question is fairly simple. What drew you to Ascent?
Elina considers the question for a moment, biting her lip lightly before smiling.
Elina Cartel — When I first heard about Ascent, it was still in its infancy. I was immediately taken by the organized nature of the promotion and my interested was piqued by many different qualities Ascent has over other promotions I’ve seen.
Alex Easton — And those would be?
Elina Cartel — First and foremost, Ascent steps outside of the normal framework of most wrestling promotions in that it inhibits a more creative slant on this sport. It allows for fighters of all sizes, abilities, and ages to come together to collaborate, to challenge each other, and ultimately to redefine what has become a somewhat stale sport.
Alex Easton — Fairly high praise for Ascent. I think it’s safe to say that you’re in this for ‘the long haul’.
Elina Cartel — I would say so, yes.
Alex Easton — Moving on, aside from the obvious championships, what do you hope to accomplish with All Star Combat Entertainment?
Elina Cartel — As you probably already know, I am quite new to this sport. I have been training for many years, but I have yet to step into the ring aside from a few fights in smaller promotions. I obviously yearn to rise to the top of Ascent, but my main goal, right now, is to hone my skills and learn to be a better version of myself. I realize that my opponents will likely be only interested in winning, but I will take my opportunities against them as learning experiences to carry with me. Improvement, I suppose I should say, is my higher goal in Ascent. I feel like once I have risen to the challenge, that will be quite the accomplishment in and of itself.
Alex nods as Elina offers a kind smile.
Alex Easton — It’s quite a humble path you seem to be choosing for yourself. I am sure the Ascent fans are excited to see what you can become. With that in mind, who on the roster do you think is the greatest threat you might face?
Elina Cartel — K-Remix is merely one of many opponents I find to be a threat. Lex Collins is also a very accomplished competitor and I have no doubt that he would prove to be quite the challenge. I have to admit, those on the roster I know least about, for example, Scarlett and Viola, I think, could be the toughest foes. I think this simply because there is so little known about the two of them and one could find themselves shocked and surprised. At the same time, I find each competitor on the Ascent roster to be incredibly talented and will treat all as the threatening opponents they are.
Alex Easton — Quite interesting. I’m sure your opponents will afford you the same anticipation when the time comes. Moving on, If you could pick your dream match with anyone on the roster, who would it be and what would you make the stipulation?
Elina chuckles.
Elina Cartel — Wow. That’s quite the question. Full disclosure? Konstantine. The stipulation? Perhaps the ‘I quit’ match. I mention Konstantine, because I feel he represents quite the clash in styles for me. I believe that he would give me the test I need. Perhaps, with that considered, I could give him a test he didn’t anticipate.
Alex Easton — Wow. Well, let’s hope that Konstantine is watching. He might just take you up on your offer. Our final question is simple. In your own words, who is Elina Cartel?
Elina’s face turns sad for a moment as she considers the question.
Elina Cartel — This is a question I’ve been asking myself for a while. Who is Elina Cartel? Well, I am a fighter, first and foremost, but I am also many things. Too many to easily fit into a short answer. Ultimately, this is part of why I have joined Ascent. I’m looking to better understand who I am and in doing so, show the fans and my opponents who I am.
Alex smiles.
Alex Easton — Well, I suppose you don’t want to give too much away, do you? Be that mysterious Elina Cartel everyone’s talking about. Well, I speak for myself and the fans, we are all looking forward to getting to know you better. Thank you for your time, Elina.
Elina Cartel — Thank you Alex, this was quite nice. And thank you to my fellow roster members and ultimately the fans. Without the fans, we would all be out of a job.
With that said, the interview closes as the camera fades out.
Backstage
The cameras cut backstage where we find K-Remix in the concessions area. He has a chair pulled up to one of the food vending counters just to the side of where the line is. He is sitting there with a cup in front of him. He picks up the cup, downs whatever is inside, and slams the cup down on the counter.
K-Remix — BARKEEP! ANOTHER!
K-Remix's manager happens to be walking by just in time to catch all of this.
Diego Velez — Whoa, whoa, whoa! Are you underage drinking?
”Bartender” — He's just having Mountain Dew.
Diego punches K-Remix in the arm.
Diego Velez — I'm disappointed in you!
K-Remix — For not drinking underage?
Diego Velez — YES!
K-Remix — What kind of role model are you?!
Diego Velez — I'm like the cool uncle who lets you drink and borrow the keys to his sweet ride and shit.
K-Remix — Seriously, with a family like mine, how did I not become a bank robber?
Diego Velez — Did you want to become a bank robber… Because I know a guy.
K-Remix — No, nobody is robbing banks. I'm not drinking underage, everything is fine.
The two now hear an unfamiliar voice from behind them.
Voice — Can I have your autograph?
K-Remix spins around to see a kid around the age of fourteen standing there holding a sharpie and an autograph book.
K-Remix — Sure kid, I'd be glad to.
Kid — Not you, him.
The kid hands the marker and book to Diego.
Diego Velez — Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Diego can't help but laugh as he signs the book and hands it back to him.
K-Remix — Are you sure you don't want mine too?
Kid — No, who are you?
Diego just starts laughing once again.
K-Remix — In the words of Tallahasse, “Look, I've never hit a kid before...”
Diego Velez — Calm down K, it's not his fault that he has good taste. Diego Velez has wrestled all over the world.
Kid — Aww, what? Diego Velez? I thought you were Luis Guzman.
K-Remix almost dies due to laughing so far.
Diego Velez — Get the hell out of here, I don't look like Luis Guzman.
The kid walks away and K-Remix is literally crying at this point.
K-Remix — Come on Luis, we should get out of here too.
Diego Velez — I will suffocate you in your sleep.
K-Remix — Aww, Luis, that's not nice.
The two of them walk away with Diego looking none too pleased.
Konstantine vs Finale
Singles Match
Singles Match
Both men are surprisingly calm as the bell rings. The audience seems to hold its breath as they stand motionless in their corners and size each other up. They both move at once, colliding in the center of the ring. Finale gains the advantage and goes for an Irish whip toward the turnbuckles. Konstantine reverses and it’s Finale who is sent careening toward the corner. Finale controls his momentum uses the turnbuckles for a modified springboard back elbow. Konstantine is driven back across the ring to the opposite corner. Finale traps him by hopping onto the middle turnbuckle and raining down forearm strikes.
Konstantine throws an elbow up into the face of Finale, creating an opening for Konstantine to hook the legs and lift Finale off the turnbuckle, slamming him down into the canvas with a sitout powerbomb. Konstantine holds on to one of the legs and twists Finale over, cranking down on an ankle lock! Finale snarls in pain, but keeps his wits about him, stretching his arm toward the ropes. He founders once before getting a hand on the bottom rope. The ref calls for the break, but Konstantine holds on for the full four point nine-nine count for maximum damage.
Finale clutches his ankle for several seconds after rolling away. Konstantine pursues his opponent across the ring, but Finale surprises him with a drop toe hold! The two get to their feet and collide once again, Finale ducking around behind Konstantine for a huge release German suplex. He wastes no time pouncing on Konstantine for a volley of mounted forearms which the crowd counts along with. Konstantine clips Finale on the temple with a wild punch and gets to his feet. He throws a knee into Finale’s face before the other man can stand, and then hits a vicious stomp to the face!
Half the crowd gives an unsure chorus of boos, which Konstantine ignores as he delivers a wicked kick to the ribs. Finale rolls away, and Konstantine drops back into the ropes for a running kick. Finale uses the ropes to pull himself to his feet. As Konstantine charges, he ducks under the arm and comes back with a full nelson suplex! He drops and goes for a heel hook, but Konstantine’s struggling keeps him from fully locking it on. Konstantine twists onto his back and delivers a kick up into Finale’s face to break the hold.
On his feet in an instant, Konstantine sends Finale to the ropes with a light-speed Irish whip. Finale rebounds and suddenly leaps up, hitting a leaping knee that catches Konstantine on the chin! Finale goes for the pin, but Konstantine gets the shoulder up after just one! Konstantine takes a fist full of Finale’s hair and drags him to his feet, blasting him with a European uppercut! The force sends Finale to the ropes, and as he rebounds Konstantine crushes him into the mat with a spinebuster. With a finger to his lips, Konstantine calls for quiet before hitting the Midnight Murder Scene! He makes the pin and gets One… Two… Three!
Winner: Konstantine
In Ring
Once Finale has disappeared backstage and Konstantine has finished celebrating his victory and gone to take what short break he can, Ascent’s theme “Tonight” fills the studio. GM Erik Hawke appears on the small stage, smiling broadly at the success of the evening so far. Daniela Martinez hands him her microphone as he ducks into the ring.
Erik Hawke — I hope you’ve all enjoyed the show so far!
The crowd gives an enthusiastic pop.
Erik Hawke — Now all four competitors have been decided…
Hawke pauses to wait through another round of cheers.
Erik Hawke — I had planned for five, but you never know what is going to happen in wrestling, right? Now that we know who made it through, however, it’s time to reveal just what they will have to overcome to become the first Genesis Champion.
The audience cheers wildly, just as excited to hear the stipulation for the Main Event as the competitors doubtlessly are in the back.
Erik Hawke — So, tonight, Elina Cartel, Scarlett Anthem, Lex Collins, and Konstantine will come together in this very ring in a Date with Destiny match!
The cheers rise again, despite the crowd not knowing precisely what that means.
Erik Hawke — Not just one, but a series of cases will be hung above the ring. The inside of each of those cases is labeled with something different, and only one of them is for the championship. Once the championship case is picked the match is over. Whomever picks the right case, walks out tonight as our first Genesis Champion!
The cheers redouble as the audience realizes they are in for a chaotic take on a ladder match where the first person to the top is not guaranteed to be the winner. Hawke hands the microphone back to Daniela and moves to sit ringside with Raina Miles and Matthew Lennox at the announcers’ table. Crew members head out of the back to set up for the Main Event while the cameras shift to another part of the studio.
Backstage
The talent entrance/exit bursts open, revealing Finale still in his ring gear storming out. He kicks at the gravel, sending it skittering across the outdoor patio area on the way to the parking lot.
Finale — Face painted freak might have gotten lucky tonight, but he hasn’t seen the last of me, not by a long shot. If he thinks I’m done with him, he’s wrong. Dead wrong.
Finale rolls his eyes at the camera after he considers his words.
Finale — Not ‘dead wrong’ like I’m going to kill him in the ring or some bullshit. That’s his schtick. But I’m a man who doesn’t give up on what he wants, and Konstantine got in the way of me getting to the Genesis Championship. I’m not going to let that go. He’ll get what’s coming to him.
Finale shoves the cameraman aside to get past, causing the image to shake and swivel.
Finale — Now get out of my way. I don’t have time to watch lesser beings compete for what rightfully belongs to me. It doesn’t matter who wins the Genesis Championship tonight, they’ll just be holding onto it until I come to claim it.
Finale keeps striding out to the parking lot without so much as a glance over his shoulder.

Date with Destiny Ladder Match
Scarlett Anthem vs Elina Cartel vs Lex Collins vs Konstantine
Date with Destiny Ladder Match
The lights dim to half in the studio, a single spotlight on Daniela Martinez where she stands in the center of the ring, prepared for the Main Event. The crowd murmurs quietly. The excitement in the room is palpable as the ethereal synth lines of “Option” by Crosses start in, synced with a set of sweeping red, white and gold laser lights panning the crowd.
Daniela Martinez — Introducing your first competitor for the Date with Destiny match for the Genesis Championship… Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and weighing in at one hundred and fifteen pounds… Scarlett Anthem!
The slow initial pulse of the drums times to Scarlett Anthem stepping out from behind the curtain to stand atop the ramp. Once the groove of the song kicks in to it’s galloping tempo, Scarlett is moving down the ramp with purpose, clapping hands with a big, welcoming smile full of energy and buoyancy on her way down to the ring where she slides in under the ropes and sets herself into one of the corners, prepping for the match.
Daniela Martinez — And next, weighing one hundred and fifteen pounds, from Los Angeles, California…
“Machines” begins playing as the lights in the studio turn down low. As the song begins to boom, Elina Cartel walks through the entrance and ignores the fans as she walks down the ramp. Neon lights hit the audience and the ring in bright pinks, greens, yellows, and purples. The lights reflect off her chrome Xpert leather jacket.
Daniela Martinez — The Inquiring Mind… Elina Cartel!
She walks right to the ring apron and in a single bound, leaps up onto the apron. She unzips her leather jacket and lets it fall to the ground behind her before stepping into the ring.
Elina walks to the middle of the ring and extends her arms and her middle fingers before pulling them together to make a cross in front of her face. The music dies down as the lighting returns to normal as she makes her way to her corner to warm up for the upcoming four-way battle.
Daniela Martinez — Third, from New York City…
The lights dim, and the sound of a heartbeat fills the silence, growing a little louder and faster before being replaced with a driving rock beat. "Re-Education (Through Labor)" by Rise Against kicks into gear over the arena sound system, getting an ear-splitting huge pop from the female fans in attendance.
Daniela Martinez — Weighing in at one hundred ninety-five pounds, he is… “Fearless” Lex Collins!
Lex appears through the curtain as orange and red spotlights fade up slowly, like the sun rising to reveal a fire in the sky. He stands with his head bowed and pauses before raising his arms, thrusting them directly into the path of the spotlights as the crowd erupts into cheers yet again. Hesitating for a moment, he adjusts his fight gloves and the tape on his forearms before unzipping his Brutal Apparel hoodie.
He makes his way down to the ring, slapping hands with as many fans as he can. Midway down, he stops and shrugs out of the hoodie, whipping it into the crowd. He pauses for a few selfies with fans before hopping up on the apron. Grinning at the crowd, he presses his right fist over his heart to a huge pop before turning and springing over the rope.
Daniela Martinez — And the final opponent… Introducing, from La Fábrica del Infierno…
The introduction of "Rain" by Mai Yamane came in a haunting tune of a church organ. The studio falls into a deep red as KONSTANTINE makes his way onto the stage. He looks directly into the ring, his piercing light eyes dropping on that alone and the three others within. The fog that lingers around threatens to swallow him whole. Yet, he does not stand there long. The crowd is at a hush, feeling the emanating force of the solemn destroyer of man. It takes what feels like an eternity for KONSTANTINE to break away from his statue-like stance at the tip of the stage. Once he does, there is an eerie motion to it all, a burst of energy summoning forth effort to move.
Daniela Martinez — Weighing two hundred and fifty-six pounds he is The Last King… KONSTANTINE!
He starts his way down the ramp, a methodical march to war. His stance is loose, teasing his black coat to whip around. As Mai belts out the depressive lyrics, KONSTANTINE reaches the end of the walkway. He closes his eyes and brings his hand up to his face, lightly touching the messy facepaint there. He continues into the ring where he stays on the mat for a moment. He raises slowly, cracking the joints of his body. KONSTANTINE, the self-proclaimed Last King, gives a wanton glance to the audience, only giving them that remnant of care. But just as soon as he cast it, his eyes drift to the matter at hand… the match, and his three opponents.
The bell rings and Scarlett, Elina, and Lex all move practically as one. Konstantine is the only one to stay in his corner and watch to see what the others do. Scarlett and Elina begin trading blows, Elina with precise elbow and forearm strikes that hearken to her MMA training and Scarlett with kicks that exploit the small weight advantage she has over Elina. Scarlett is laser-focused on Elina to the detriment of being aware of the others in the ring, leaving an opening for Lex Collins to step up behind her.
Before Collins can grapple with the smaller opponent, Konstantine makes his presence known with a half nelson bulldog that drives Lex face first into the canvas. Scarlett glances over her shoulder at the commotion, opening her up for Elina to surge forward with a flying forearm that puts both of them on the mat. Lex rolls away and kips up as the two women impact. Elina applies a rear naked choke to Scarlett and holds on, knowing she’s at no risk of disqualification in this particular match.
Raina Miles — Smart work by Elina as she sets to wearing down one of her opponents from the start.
Matthew Lennox — As if a ladder match isn’t challenging all on its own, each of these competitors has three people to watch out for, and even if they are able to climb a ladder, there is no guarantee the case they choose will be the right one.
Collins rushes Konstantine, who ducks under the incoming clothesline. Lex hits the ropes and rebounds with a springboard back elbow that catches Konstantine on the jaw. The pair of them tumble over Elina and Scarlett, breaking up the choke. Collins is on his feet and hits a diving knee to the head of Konstantine, who rolls to the edge of the ring to create some distance.
Scarlett is on her feet, sending a kick to the midsection of Elina, who catches her foot before it can impact. She shoves the leg away, but Scarlett whips around and uses the momentum to turn it into a spin kick that sends Elina to the nearest turnbuckle. A big boot from Konstantine stalls Collins’ momentum and sends Lex into the corner opposite Elina. Konstantine and Scarlett both mount up and rain down the punches in unison.
Konstantine throws Collins out of the ring as he falls out of the corner, and turns his attention to the many cases suspended overhead. With Elina and Scarlett still locked up in the opposite corner, Konstantine slides out under the bottom rope and grabs the nearest available ladder. He drives it down onto Lex’s gut once for good measure before sliding back into the ring with it.
Matthew Lennox — Collins is temporarily down on the outside, and Konstantine is using it to his advantage.
Elina has ducked out of the corner and trapped Scarlett there instead! She backs up for a head start on a running double knee that crushes Scarlett into the turnbuckles. Cartel is relentless and begins returning the volley of punches Scarlett had given earlier.
Raina Miles — Anthem and Cartel haven’t even noticed Konstantine. This could spell disaster for them.
With the two women distracted, Konstantine has set up the ladder unhindered and begun to climb! He’s half way up before Lex Collins slides back into the ring and grabs his leg! Konstantine snarls and looks down to see Collins. Holding on with both hands, he uses the other foot to kick Lex square in the face. Konstantine then races up the ladder and reaches for a case, unhooking it and opening it.
The audience and other three competitors all hold their breath as Daniela Martinez’s voice interrupts the action.
Daniela Martinez — The first case has been opened by KONSTANTINE, and it is… a one-time bonus of ten thousand dollars!
Lex, Elina, and Scarlett give a collective sigh of relief. The two women glare at one another, realizing how their focus on each other could have cost them the match.
Matthew Lennox — The first case is down, but the Genesis Championship is still up for grabs. I think this match just got even more real for Lex, Elina, and Scarlett as they saw how close they came to losing it.
Elina spins around and charges Lex Collins while he’s still got his sights on Konstantine! Cartel leaps up for a hurricanrana that sends Collins crashing right into the ladder, which spills out of the ring. Konstantine tosses the case aside and catches the incoming Scarlett with a lifting DDT.
Lex is slow to get up, holding his back after the messy impact with the ladder. Cartel is perched on the top turnbuckle, waiting for just the right moment to leap off, flattening Collins with a diving crossbody! Collins is only dazed for a second, catching an incoming elbow from Elina and throwing her bodily off of him. Elina scrambles to her feet, moving with the speed of a viper, and charges him once again. Lex drops, grabbing the top rope in the process, and Elina sails over to the top, to the ground below!
Raina Miles — Thanks to some quick thinking from Lex Collins, Elina Cartel is down on the outside.
Konstantine has control of Scarlett, her much smaller body across his shoulders for a torture rack. Anthem’s cries of pain are just barely audible over the cheering and jeering of the crowd. Finding her head, Scarlett drives an elbow into Konstantine’s temple. Once… twice… he drops her after the third time! Anthem lands on her feet and pops up as Konstantine steps in, hitting him with a double knee facebuster that sends him staggering back into Lex Collins. The two of them both go over the top rope, narrowly missing landing on top of Elina Cartel!
Scarlett is out of the ring in a flash, and right back in with a ladder of her own. She sets up beneath one of the cases at random and ascends the ladder as fast as she can. She checks once to be sure that the other three are still down before she ignores the safety warning labels and sits right on the top of the ladder to unhook the case. She opens it up and…
Daniela Martinez — The second case has been opened by Scarlett Anthem and it is… a Golden Ticket!
Konstantine is the first one back into the ring, and he grabs both sides of the ladder while Scarlett is still sitting atop, pushing it over! Anthem tries to hold on, but loses her grip when the ladder hits the rope and collapses to the floor outside. Konstantine snaps the ladder shut and throws it out, right on top of her!
Raina Miles — Mr. Hawke, you’ve been quiet here so far, but what exactly is the Golden Ticket?
Erik Hawke — Your question is the answer, Raina. The Golden Ticket is practically anything. Scarlett can turn it in anytime for anything short of a title shot.
Matthew Lennox — Lucky for her.
Raina Miles — Or not so lucky, after that fall.
Elina Cartel has slid into the ring and hopped directly onto the top turnbuckle nearest Konstantine. She doesn’t even wait for him to turn before she nails him squarely between the shoulders with a missile dropkick! Konstantine hits the ropes, but catches himself before he can go over again. Only Lex Collins is there waiting! Collins doesn’t seem to approve of what Konstantine did to Scarlett, and reaches under the bottom rope to trip Konstantine and pull him out of the ring.
Cartel sees her chance and leans out under the bottom rope to grab the ladder she almost landed on earlier. She has a bit of trouble getting it into the ring, but Scarlett is still down and Lex and Konstantine are locked up on the outside. Elina stares at the cases above, unsure which to choose. Finally she just sets up the ladder and begins to climb. The ring shakes as Collins whips Konstantine into the apron spine first, but Elina keeps climbing.
Lex sees this and slides back in, beginning to climb after her on the opposite side. Elina reaches the top well ahead of Collins and unhooks the nearest case. Collins is there as soon as she has it in both hands. The two lock eyes before Lex grabs the case and tries to jerk it from Cartel’s hands. To his surprise, she shoves it in his direction, right into his face! The impact and overbalancing send Collins backward off of the ladder, crashing to the canvas below. Elina almost goes over after him, but manages to regain her balance. Wisely she climbs back down before opening the case.
Daniela Martinez — The third case has been opened by Elina Cartel and it is… Her choice of opponents for Ascent’s next show!
Elina screams in frustration as the case is not the one for the championship and begins using it to club Lex Collins over and over again!
Matthew Lennox — Not quite what Elina wanted, but just think, if she doesn’t win here tonight, she could pick the champion for a one-on-one match at Ascent’s next show.
The crowd gives a huge pop as Scarlett Anthem finally pulls herself up using the apron cover for assistance. She’s woozy, but moving, much to everyone’s relief. Meanwhile, Konstantine is back in the ring. He grins, just watching Elina assault Lex for several long moments before he snatches her up for a tiger suplex that lays her out flat! Konstantine uses a boot to shove Elina out of the ring.
Scarlett has grabbed the ladder that she fell from earlier and shoved it back into the ring. ...Only Lex Collins grabs it and sets it up! Collins races up the ladder… but so does Konstantine on the other side! Both men reach the top almost at the same time, staring each other down as they do.
Raina Miles — If looks could kill, we’d need a pair of body bags!
Unexpectedly, the two ignore each other and both reach for a different case that’s within reach! Scarlett has slid back into the ring and dashes over to the ladder. She climbs up the same side as Collins, throwing a shoulder into his side to try to knock him off and take the spot for herself. Konstantine has a second case in hand and climbs half-way down the ladder before jumping the rest of the distance.
Collins and Anthem trade blows at the top of the ladder, each precariously hanging off of the side and trying not to fall. Before Konstantine can open his case, Elina Cartel is on the apron and grabs him by the hair! She drops back to the floor, bringing his throat down across the top rope! Konstantine snaps back and hits the canvas, but doesn’t let go of the case. Instead he rolls out and blasts Cartel right across the face with it! Elina staggers into the barricade, but ignores the pain and charges back at Konstantine.
Matthew Lennox — Look at that determination. You know she’s got to be in pain, but Elina refuses to stop moving.
With Konstantine off the other side of the ladder, Scarlett give up battling Legs and swings around to the free side, looking for a case she can reach. Collins grabs the one he had been going for and climbs back down to safety with it. Lex waste no time opening the case, all while keeping an eye on the outside where Konstantine has trapped Elina’s leg in another ladder and is brutally stomping down on it.
Daniela Martinez — A fourth case has been opened by Lex Collins and it is… a one time ten thousand dollar bonus!
The disappointment is evident on Lex’s face as he looks up to where Scarlett is reaching for a second case of her own. Before he can begin to climb after her or try to stop her the ladder is kicked into his face! Konstantine has left Elina on the outside and is back in the ring! Scarlett is dangling from the rope that holds the case she was trying to get! The ladder falls to the side and Konstantine drives his case into the gut of Lex Collins, knocking the air from his lungs.
Raina Miles — Poor Scarlett is trapped up there! I can’t look.
Matthew Lennox — Somebody get a ladder back up there for her!
Scarlett is frantically trying to keep a hold on the rope while also trying to unhook the case. She seems just as worried about the case as she is her own safety! Outside the ring Elina has gotten her leg free from the ladder and clutches her knee in pain. Konstantine backs into a corner and flips the latches on his second case of the night.
Daniela Martinez — Konstantine has opened the fifth case… and it’s… a favor from GM Erik Hawke?!
Erik Hawke — I’ve been wondering if someone would get that. Now I’m almost afraid of what he’ll want.
Konstantine throws the case aside just as Scarlett loses her grip on the rope. Anthem falls on top of Konstantine, who only seems to do a moderate job of breaking the impact. Limping but determined, Elina Cartel has slid back into the ring. Collins has recovered from the attack by Konstantine and steps into her path, remembering the assault from earlier.
Lex hits a scoop slam on Cartel, but both of them are slow to get up. Somehow Elina is on her feet first. Just as Lex gets up, Cartel hits him with with a spinning knee kick. They stagger apart into opposite sides of the ring, glaring daggers at one another. Elina charges first, but Lex unexpectedly goes for the ropes and leaps off for a swinging DDT!
Raina Miles — That impact! This could be it for Elina Cartel.
Before Lex can capitalize, Konstantine is there with a double underhook backbreaker! Already hurting from the impact with the ladder before, Collins writhes in pain on the mat. Konstantine is winded, and takes a little time getting back to his feet as well. Scarlett is moving once again, grasping the waist of Konstantine’s ring gear to pull herself up. Konstantine shakes his head, but seems to savor watching her claw her way up.
Matthew Lennox — Not one of these four is willing to give up. I’m afraid of what’s going to happen if someone doesn’t get the right case soon.
Once Scarlett is on her feet, Konstantine holds her at arm’s length and winds up for a European uppercut. Only Scarlett springs up from the mat and catches him with a Pele kick out of nowhere! Konstantine sags back into the ropes, but doesn’t go down.
Across the ring, Elina Cartel is on her feet, and Lex Collins is getting there himself. Elina picks up the lone ladder left in the ring, holding it horizontally. She looks at Lex, Scarlett, and Konstantine… and then surges across the ring, using the ladder as a battering ram! All three opponents are driven to the ropes and tumble over the top!
Raina Miles — Elina has cleared the ring! She’s got a chance for another case!
Cartel is so worn out she can hardly get the ladder open. She stares desperately up at the remaining cases, still with no idea which to pick. She sighs, digs down, and starts climbing. Konstantine, Lex, and Scarlett are all moving on the outside. Collins pulls himself up on the apron and begins to slide into the ring, but Scarlett wraps both arms around his leg!
Elina reaches the top of the ladder, swaying and almost falling off. Lex shakes his leg free and grabs the middle rope to haul himself up onto the apron. Konstantine is up and ducks under Lex, using the position to pull him off the apron for a sit out powerbomb onto a grounded ladder! Scarlett has rolled into the ring, but is too dizzy to stand!
Cartel has a case in hand! Konstantine is in the ring, racing up the other side of the ladder to meet her at the top! Konstantine lands a stiff forearm that knocks Elina backwards. Cartel loses her hold on the case and falls halfway down the ladder, but catches herself. Konstantine leaps clear to the canvas.
Matthew Lennox — Konstantine has the case now! If he gets it open, it will be his third!
Scarlett is on her feet for a standing dropkick that drives the case directly into Konstantine’s face! Anthem reaches for the case as it hits the mat, but Konstantine grabs her leg and pulls her away. Elina Cartel dives across the ring, grabbing the case and tumbling to the outside. Konstantine and Scarlett scramble after her. Collins rolls off of the ladder and crawls across the floor toward Elina.
But she has the case open!
Daniela Martinez — Elina Cartel opened the sixth case and it’s labeled… The Genesis Championship!
The bell rings and the crowd explodes into cheers. Collins and Anthem look stricken. Elina looks shocked as she stares at the label painted inside the case. Konstantine’s face is twisted in anger, and he lunges for both Scarlett and Lex. Scarlett has the wherewithal to roll away, but Lex takes the brunt of the hit. Collins and Konstantine roll across the floor trading blows as security comes from the back to try to separate them.
Erik Hawke gets up from the announcer’s table and strides over to Elina, offering her a hand up off of the floor. The two ascend the stairs together and Hawke holds the ropes as Elina gingerly ducks between them. The referee carefully raises Elina’s hand into the air, and the crowd somehow manages to get even louder.
Daniela Martinez — The winner of the Date with Destiny ladder match and your first ASCENT Genesis Champion… Elina Cartel!
As the referee releases her hand, Elina just barely manages to stand on her own. One of the crew members at ringside hands a velvet-wrapped object up to Erik Hawke. With his free hand, he takes the mic offered by Daniela Martinez.
Erik Hawke — I couldn’t have asked for a better show to start off what I hope is a very long run for ASCENT. Every last person on this roster has made me proud tonight. When I dreamed up this match, I never imagined it would be as spectacular as these four just made it. Elina, it’s an honor to stand in this ring with you right now.
Hawke removes the velvet wrap, revealing the Genesis Championship, which gleams under the studio lights. Cartel stares at it, still in shock that she’s won, before looking back up at the GM.
Erik Hawke — Let me be the first to congratulate you, Elina Cartel, our first Genesis Champion!
The crowd breaks into cheers once again. Elina tiredly raises her hands into the air in victory, allowing Erik to wrap the belt around her waist himself. Security is still fighting to separate Lex and Konstantine on the outside of the ring while the medical staff has come out to assist Scarlett in heading backstage.
“Machines” hits the sound system, and ASCENT’s first show draws to a close.
