Everything for ASCENT was progressing nicely, even ahead of the schedule that General Manager Erik Hawke had tentatively laid out for himself. The ring canvases, apron covers, and ropes had all come in ahead of the estimated delivery date. He’d just gotten off of the phone with his designer for the Genesis and Apex Championships, and they were nearly complete.
To top it all off, the roster was nearly full. The range of talent ASCENT had attracted was diverse, perfect for putting together compelling shows. He’d managed to entice a small handful of young, up-and-coming stars in Tiffany, Kristopher, Jud, Scarlett, and Viola. He wasn’t daunted by the fact that they were mostly new to the business, they had all shown plenty of determination already.
With the profiles of all nine who were currently signed spread across his desk in the tiny Portland-based headquarters for the promotion, Hawke was beginning to draft potential lineups for the upcoming shows. He had every intention of opening the season with an explosion instead of just a bang. The battle for the Genesis Championship needed to be an all out war, and as the details fell into place he was more and more confident that he’d light a fire under everyone on the roster.
Jasper Kincaid — Is everything ready?
Erik hadn’t heard the arrival of ASCENT’s owner, Jasper Kincaid, but he wasn’t startled by the sudden question. He’d already learned that Kincaid wasn’t much for knocking when he showed up. With a smile, Hawke pushed the papers to the side of his desk.
Erik Hawke — Nearly so. All of the technical details have been worked out with the studio. A stage that will fit inside and is easily transportable has been built and tested. The AV team is nearly done putting together the video packages.
Jasper Kincaid — And the roster?
Erik Hawke — Nearly complete.
Erik held up the stack of profiles.
Erik Hawke — We’ve attracted an interesting array of personalities. People are going to love seeing a few of these guys get put in their place; kids will cry when they see Konstantine; everyone’s going to cheer for Tiffany and Elina; we’ve got some good experience in Lex Collins and James Raven; and Kristopher Carter Jr.’s family is a big name in the business.
A brief silence ensued as Kincaid considered what he had said. At last, the company owner nodded.
Jasper Kincaid — Good. We’ll be starting on schedule, then?
Erik Hawke — Absolutely. These guys and girls are all chomping at the bit to get going. I’ve been trying to work out details with a few other names over the phone. We’ll be ready to go soon.
Jasper Kincaid — You’ve got something in mind for the first show, then?
Unable to contain his excitement, Hawke stood up from his desk with a broad grin.
Erik Hawke — It’s going to be amazing, the fans will love it. I’ve got it almost planned out. See, all of the undercard matches are going to be qualifiers. The half of our guys that win go on to the Main Event for the Genesis Championship. I think I’m going to make the match…
Jasper held up a hand, smirking slightly himself, to interrupt the enthusiastic barrage.
Jasper Kincaid — I can see that you’ve got it all under control, Mr. Hawke. Just send me those last few names when you have them, if you don’t mind?
Erik Hawke — Of course, as soon as they’ve signed.
As Kincaid made his way out of the office, Erik sat back down behind his desk and eagerly spread the profiles back out to continue working on his plans for the season.
